WHAT DID YOURS LOOK LIKE?
Mine started as a raised blue/black circular mole that bled around the edges. Since I was told it was "nothing" by a DERM, I ignored it as it changed to a light brown large dome shape over the years. My underpants caught on it because it got so big. I had nodular melanoma.
Located on the lower leg on the outer side and was a small mole I had since a child (20+ years), about 2.5mm in diameter. It was brownish pink - a light color with no real variation in color. It was symmetrical and very slightly raised. I asked the derm if we could remove because it would knick every once in a while when I shaved. He did a shave biopsy and only anticipated a normal pathology report, not malignant melanoma in situ. Thank God I asked for it to be removed. Otherwise who knows how long it would've been until removed. It looked nothing like on google images, nor did it follow the ABCD's really.
My mm was a lentigo meligna in situ removed this June 2006. It looked like a small brown freckle on my lip, (yes before my hair turned grey I was a red head with some freckles and porcelain skin) but you could see if you looked closely, that it was smugged slightly at one rounded corner. I had another fickle removed and it was mildly atypical.
It was a new red lump on my skin on my right arm. My GP said it was nothing. Three months later I decided to have it removed anyway. It was 2.1 breslow, clark IV, stage II.
It was not a mole that I know of. It looked like a scar - my doctor said it was a callous (it was on the bottom of my foot). It had no real color except when it would turn red when inflamed with blood.
Mine was Desmoplastic, started out looking like a perfectly round (size of eraser head) white patch on my cheek. No color whatsoever. I am menopausal so thought hormones. Over the next year, the patch enlarged, grew a lump in the middle, and finally turned flame-red. Thats when I had it removed (for cosmetic reasons initially). Surprised everyone. Desmoplastic, 2.8+ Breslow, Clark IV, am stage II, NED since 3/06. I have fair coloring, freckles, but do tan. Lots of burns as a kid. Tanning bed use in my 20's and 30's - not a lot, just to get started in spring so I didn't burn...how ironic.
My melanoma was pink. On my left arm just above my elbow. Went to the derm for another suspicious spot and he took a biopsy of the one on my arm and it came back melanoma.
Mine was on my back...not much color..pink.
Mine was a very dark mole, basically black in color, pretty evenly round and raised. It was on the back of my left arm, just above my elbow. It wasn't something that I'd had since childhood. I first noticed it as a very dark spot on the back of my arm which later grew over time (my best guess is a couple of years) and became raised.
My sisters was unpigmented (pink really) It was on the crown of her head and started out looking like the gip of an eraser. It grew asymetrirically (sp?) and was waxy looking.
Mine looked exactly like a wart, which is why we didn't worry about it until it started bleeding.
Mine was a new mole that when it first came up looked like a dark raised sesame seed on my leg. It grew into a dark black raised circle then eventually went into a peanut shape. It never was bigger than a pencil eraser though. It was darker than any other mole I had and was new. It always bothered me even before I knew anything about Melanoma.
Just a darn freckle! Since it was on my face, I went to a derm who froze it off twice, then I went to a plastic surgeon who cut it out. It came back pre-cancerous, but not cancer at that time. (???) Fast forward a few years and once again, for vanity's sake, I went to another plastic surgeon. Came back MM Breslow 2.25mm.
A normal little round brown-ish black mole that always worried me. I was told by a few doctors that it was fine, so ignored it. When I was pregnant, it grew soooo fast and changed color, literally overnight.
Normal. Round. Skin colored. It was scaley and did kind of pop up overnight though.
A new mole that got larger, turned purplish in the middle, got kind dry around the edges, itched and bled a little
Mine was a small oval mole on my right wrist. Initally when I was a child it was brown. Then when I was 26 it turned a grey color it also started to look like a scab.
Mine was dark brown with black specs in it and had dry layers on top. It was about the size of a pencil eraser and was located midway down on my left shin.
Was a small flat mole for years and years and suddenly grew to size of eraser. Nothing odd looking about it otherwise.
