Why you need to know about Melanoma

Melanoma is a common and serious form of skin cancer.

If melanoma is not detected and removed early while it is thin, it will spread down into the skin and go internally and once it reaches this point, it can be fatal.

In the early stages it is often ignored until it is too late because it may look harmless. Most people do not realize that a mole that is melanoma can kill you, if it is not treated promptly.

Melanoma can come from existing moles that are benign skin tumors that develop melanocytes (pigment cells) as a result of being exposed to the sun or tanning beds.

Approximately 60% of melanoma comes from clear skin, moles or spots that appear from tanning that was not there prior.

The percentage of people who develop melanoma has more then doubled in the past 30 years.
